Lisa Huybrechts, M.A.
Lisa is a non-judgmental,
insightful, and understanding person, and she draws on these
strengths in her work as a therapist. She has a Masters Degree in
Counseling Psychology from the University of Colorado, with an
emphasis of training in Couples and Family Therapy. Lisa is
currently pursuing her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the
University of Northern Colorado. She is a Nationally Certified
Counselor, and is a member of the American Psychological
Association. She is active on the board of the Colorado
Psychological Association.
She has been a featured speaker at Denver Public Library's Fresh City Life lecture series, and has facillitated a variety of workshops, most notably 'The Sanctuary of the Self: Self Care for Women', 'Cultivating Joy' and 'How to Have a Fantastic Relationship'. While not furthering her education and attending to her clients, Lisa enjoys spending quality time with her friends and her husband of 10 years.
Lisa has an Experiential orientation towards therapy. Her approach is influenced by the work of Leslie S. Greenberg, Ph.D., co-founder of Process-Experiential Therapy. For working with couples, Lisa uses the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy model pioneered by Susan Johnson, Ph.D., and advocated by luminaries in the field of Couples Counseling such as Dr. John Gottman. With in this experiential framework she makes ample use of Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioral techniques as well as strategic interventions.
Though Lisa is a family therapist who's specialty is working with couples, she is also a skilled therapist with many individual clients as well as a supportive life coach. She does successful work with people on the path of self development, and who may be struggling with trauma recovery, addictions, relationships, feelings of depression or anxiety, eating disorders, spirituality, sexuality, and personal growth issues.
